I spoke to “Victoria” this week. She had lost 120 pounds over the course of 7 years. Wow, what an accomplishment!
While she was thrilled with the weight loss, she couldn’t fully enjoy it because she was so displeased with the sagging excess skin left behind. After consulting with several surgeons, she decided to undergo an Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and a liposuction procedure.
She awakened from surgery already in a Design Veronique product that the hospital provided. Because we offer over 85 products in 8 standard sizes, product selection and fit can be challenging. In Victoria’s case, the garment she woke up in did not fit her well.
Victoria carried much of her weight below her thighs, so her hip to waist ratio was larger than average. The garment fit nice and snug on her waist, but the tight fit on her legs caused it to roll above her knees. When Victoria and I spoke, she had intended on ordering the same product in a larger size. I explained to her that by using a larger size, she would lose the proper compression around her waist.
I suggested that she try a garment from one of our other product lines. Our Rubenesque line is designed for women that have a larger hip to waist ratio. Plus, this product has a longer leg length so it would fit Victoria better around the knee.
When she received the garment, she could not believe how much more comfortable she felt. A huge plus for her was that the longer leg provided a smooth, seamless look under slacks and jeans, and that made her feel even more confident.
It just goes to show that proper fit and product selection is the key to proper postsurgical compression.
